From transparent options to black-out shades, cellular shades come in a range of fabrics and materials. Choose from designer fabrics, sheers, top-down shades and other window treatments features to improve the insulation in your home while increasing aesthetic appeal.

Energy efficiency is optimized with cellular shades, stemming from the pockets of air created in the honeycomb design. There are over 200 colors and designs along with an endless choice of shapes, from arches to hexagons, to choose from.

Room Darkening and Black-out Shades

Contrast Between Traditional and Modern Interior Designs

Interior designs are very important in shaping the look of a house. People have been using various themes of interior design to decorate their houses. Some people use a particular theme in decorating their house while some naive people just collect art pieces that they like and put them in their house irrespective of how they will concur with the interiors of the house.

To make a stronger appeal in decorating their houses people often hire specialist interior designers for the job. The design patterns can be broadly segregated into two classes, traditional or modern. As it is quite evident from the name the traditional designs include the use of natural materials and subtle hues. The traditional design gives a feel of past and local culture. In stark contrast with traditional interior design, the modern interiors include the use of latest technology and design elements. It gives a very organized feel. The modern interiors are mostly incorporated with geometric and symmetrical looking elements.

The furniture and accessories used in traditional designs are overtly decorative. The use of colors is highly exaggerated. The traditional interiors have decorative furniture with carved edges. The modern interiors use hardware that is slightly elongated, has straight lines and little bit lifted from the ground for airy feel. The modern interior use limited texture of colors for decoration. All the excess decorations which were part of traditional design have been removed to form modern interior.

The type of materials used in both types of design also differs largely. While in traditional interiors the use of wood, stone, brick and plaster to make the windows and arches is the norm, the modern interior designs use technologically advanced materials like steel or plastic to develop its unique style. It could be easily observed that traditional interiors have windows and doors of uniform shape and size and their placements will also be quite similar. The modern interior design often use more energy efficient windows like those of glass, which allow more light to come in the room and make the interiors look more spacious. Due to the technical advancements it has been made possible to design windows of various shapes and sizes to fit the different needs.

It could be concluded that the traditional and modern themes of interior design are two completely different themes. While the traditional designs makes the home look very decorative with the excessive use of accessories and colors. It uses complex designs and bulky furniture. It is so over the top that one cannot miss to notice any of its feature.

Hire An Interior Design Firm For Project Management Support

Interior design is known as the 'art or process of creating and designing interior decorations for the interior of a room or entire building.' Various people enter the interior design industry to flex their design prowess. The versatility of decorating an entire room or building is something that these professionals handle on a daily basis, and with delight, at that. Though, there's a forgotten part of the interior design process that many people don't realize at first glance.

Project management encompasses the process and the actual activity of organizing, planning, motivating and controlling the resources, procedures and protocols in a project. Ultimately, project management helps professionals (involved in a single project) achieve the project's specific goals, whether based in scientific or everyday issues.

When it comes to design, project management is an important part of the process. In fact, clients of design firms not only anticipate their artistic prowess, but they also expect their design firm of choice to exercise excellent management skills. Having great project management skills is what separates great design firms from those who are merely good.

Interior design, although an artistic field, is actually a field needing organization to truly work well. The nature of interior arts requires some type of organization and planning, otherwise interior design professionals wouldn't be able to coordinate and execute their projects with finesse.

Design professionals know project management is important, too. They know it's importance because the 'complicated fabrication process (of the craft) requires constant communication and accountability for the actions happening during the interior design process.' Interior designers themselves can't always depend on producing their project in person, so they need to organize communication systems that will allow them to manage their projects.

Project management generally involves the management of all aspects of a creative or business-related project. Design often involve both aspects of a creative field and a business endeavor. Project management typically involves managing:

Resources - equipment, material, people

Time - dependencies, task durations, critical deadlines

Money - profits, contingencies, costs

Scope - project goals, project requirements, project size

Practically all design projects involve those aforementioned elements of project management. Therefore, it's important for a design firm to be well versed in managing their projects for clients.

If you're unsure about whether your interior design firm can successfully manage your project, there's nothing wrong with talking to them about it. One of the biggest aspects of management is communication, so you owe it to yourself to work with your firm and produce the best project possible.

French Polishing To Preserve Antique Furniture

Collectors of antique furniture are well aware of the need to protect and preserve it in order to enhance its aesthetic appeal. Thus, in addition to the regular dusting and cleaning, polishing woodwork is a regular feature of its maintenance regimen. Not only for antique furniture, but other woodwork as well a shiny coat of polish makes it stand out beautifully at the same time increasing its resistance against damage.

Most furniture craftsmen and experts bet their money on a polishing technique called French polishing. The lacquer used contains an important component, shellac. This resin is secreted by the female lac beetle and is deposited on the trees it occupies in the form of tube formations. The lac beetle is commonly spotted India and Thailand. The lac deposits are scraped from the bark of the trees and are further melted either into brittle pieces or thin sheets. It is combined with alcohol to form liquid shellac. Although it comes across as a modern innovation, French polishing for furniture is not new. It was first used during the Victorian Era.

The Advantages of Using French Polish

There are several advantages of using French polish. The first one among them is its availability in different shades and colors. The color of the shellac variety depends on the tree the lac beetle lives on. It comes in a deep reddish-brown shade best suited for mahogany, deep garnet, shades of orange, shades of yellow and translucent white shades for light-colored woods.

Shellac greatly enhances the appearance of timber. Wood coated with shellac develops a tough surface and a glossy mirror-like finish. Not only this, the rich color and luster of the polish can be used to conceal natural flaws in the wood and highlight its attributes. Another advantage of using French polishing is that it is easy to repair.

Like every other lacquer used to coat wood, French polish seals the wood. It makes it less porous and thereby protects it from damage by environmental elements such as water, humidity and sunlight. It also does not allow water marks and other stains to become deep set.

The Process

Despite the benefits of French Polishing, we cannot deny that it a tedious and labor intensive job. It follows a series of steps to complete the woodworking project successfully. It involves working the alcohol thinned shellac in layers on the wood.

It starts with sanding the surface of the furniture piece that needs to be coated with the French polish. Creating a smooth surface enables the polish to spread out evenly. Thereafter, it is wiped with a damp cloth to get rid of the sawdust. The polish is applied either using a polish mop or a pad. The polish is applied in the direction of the grain. Shellac is sticky and hence, needs to be spread out as soon as it applied. The polish is reapplied after the first coat has dried completely.

Why get it done professionally?

Expensive wood varieties such as Walnut, Mahogany and Rosewood respond best to French polishing. A quality polish is largely determined by the skill and techniques used. An unsteady and unskilled hand creates for a shoddy job. Professionals trained in the task are able to complete it in the minimum time possible requiring fewer materials. Shellac is commercially available. However, a few wood craftsmen also make their own blends.

Yes, engaging the services of a lawyer will mean extra cost to you; however, this will be money well spent. You are better off spending money on legal fees beforehand to ensure that you have a water tight contract than spend much money later on battling a builder in court.
